Cedar Rapids Educator Jeff Schneekloth is Assistant Principal of the Year

Jeff Schneekloth, associate principal at Cedar Rapids’ Taft Middle School, is the 2016-17 Iowa Assistant Principal of the Year as named by School Administrators of Iowa.

“Jeff is an outstanding choice to represent Iowa’s assistant secondary principals. His innovative accomplishments in the areas of behavior intervention and conflict resolution strategies have helped create an amazing culture of learning at Taft Middle School. His student-first approach is a model for all of us in school leadership,” expressed SAI Executive Director Roark Horn.

Recipients are selected using the Iowa Standards for School Leaders, which focus on

  • a vision of learning;
  • the presence of a school culture and instructional program that is beneficial to student learning and staff professional development;
  • a safe, efficient and effective learning environment;
  • work with parents and the community;
  • fairness, integrity and ethics; and
  • an understanding of the larger political, social, economic, legal and cultural context in which we operate.

Schneekloth commented on the award, “I am humbled and honored to be selected for this award. I am so appreciative to be part of such a vibrant learning community at Taft. Our students, staff and families support each other in a collaborative environment that promotes high achievement in all areas of each child's education.”

A committee of Iowa assistant principals selected Schneekloth for the award. He will be recognized at a State Capitol ceremony in May 2017 and at SAI's Annual Conference August 2, 2017. As Iowa’s recipient, Schneekloth is a candidate for National Assistant Principal of the Year, an award sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He will have an opportunity to attend the organization’s national conference and be recognized at the event.

Schneekloth has served as an associate principal at Taft since 2010. He began his career teaching physical education and at-risk students at Harding Middle School in Cedar Rapids. Schneekloth has a bachelor’s degree in secondary physical education from Central College and his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Iowa.
