Dan Butler Elected SAI Vice President![]() April 17, 2020 Dan Butler, principal of Epworth Elementary in the Western Dubuque Community School District, has been elected vice president of School Administrators of Iowa, beginning September 1, 2020. Responsibilities of the Executive Committee officers include actively promoting and delivering on the association’s mission of developing Iowa’s educational leaders and learners. “Congratulations to Dan Butler for being selected by his peers as SAI’s incoming vice president. In this role, his proven ability to envision and enact education decisions that lead to new learning and growth will be a tremendous asset not only to SAI but also to all Iowa educators,” said SAI Executive Director Roark Horn. He also achieved recognition by his peers as a finalist for the 2020 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year award, which was named earlier this month. Serving as Epworth principal since 2012, he has held various roles in several buildings while at Western Dubuque. His career in education began as a third grade teacher, also at Epworth Elementary. Butler has earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s in PK-12 principalship, an advanced studies certificate for the superintendency, and he’s currently pursuing his doctorate in education—all from the University of Northern Iowa.
