Iowa Middle Level Principal of the Year Leads Council Bluffs' School
March 24, 2015 Kim Kazmierczak, principal of Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Council Bluffs, has been named the 2015 Iowa Middle Level Principal of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. SAI Executive Director Dan Smith remarked, “Kim Kazmierczak is an advocate for students, parents and teachers. Her desire to see each child succeed is evident in her work, and she strives to build a feeling of community and a positive environment at Wilson.” Kazmierczak expressed, “I am enthusiastically proud that the efforts of so many here in Council Bluffs are being acknowledged through this award. I gratefully accept this recognition because it reflects the hard work and dedication of the people who work at Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Council Bluffs Community School District. I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to lead a building as principal. My work has been a journey of learning and growth, similar to what I want for each student and each of my colleagues. “The focus on student-centered instruction, school improvement efforts and strong relationships are foundational concepts that I hope to share as a recipient of this award. There are few words to convey the gratitude I have and humbly accept it on behalf of Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Council Bluffs Community School District and my supportive family,” the school leader added. Her concern for students is further represented in these words she has shared with students, “There will be times when you feel like you are at the bottom of a dark hole with no way out. Your options may seem limited. However, you have to allow yourself to adjust and look for a solution. Find your way by making the most of the situation and allow yourself to be helped by those around you. You are not alone. We see you and are here for you.” Kazmierczak has been in Council Bluffs throughout her education career, serving as Wilson principal since 2012 and previously as principal at Carter Lake Elementary School. She began teaching in special education at Longfellow Elementary. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Buena Vista University, special education and secondary education endorsements from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Iowa. A committee of Iowa middle level principals selected Kazmierczak, and she will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the State Capitol in May.
