Iowa's Central Office Administrator of the Year is from Solon
April 18, 2017 Matt Townsley, director of instruction and technology for the Solon Community School District, has been named the 2017 Iowa Central Office Administrator of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. “I feel fortunate to work in a community where engaging each and every student in rigorous and relevant learning experiences through exceptional teaching is our shared mission. Our tradition of excellence in Solon is due in large part to the continuous professional growth of the teachers and administrators, past and present, in our growing district. I am thankful to be entrusted by my colleagues and the board of education to serve in this capacity,” Townsley emphasized. “I have followed Matt Townsley’s progress ever since he moved from the classroom to the central office at Solon, which is easily done as he has helped the district lead the state in important initiatives such as K-12 Standards-Based Grading and Professional Learning Communities. His willingness to not only lead but also share with colleagues and spread the learning throughout Iowa and the nation makes him the perfect choice for this honor,” said Roark Horn, SAI executive director. Townsley previously served as a high school math teacher for the district. His education includes a bachelor’s degree in math education from Wartburg College, a master’s in curriculum and instructional technology from Iowa State University, an educational leadership degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and he will receive his doctorate in school improvement from the University of West Georgia this May.
