Julie Trepa of Bettendorf is Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year![]() March 30, 2015 Julie Trepa, principal of Paul Norton Elementary School in the Bettendorf Community School District, has been named the 2015 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. “SAI is pleased to recognize Julie Trepa for her educational leadership,” said Dan Smith, the association’s executive director. “She has high expectations for students and staff and has worked to establish learning supports to help them achieve. She also strives to create a positive and safe culture in the building through her guidance of programs they’ve implemented," Smith added. “I am humbled and honored to accept this award on behalf of Paul Norton Elementary parents, staff and students. I am blessed to be able to lead a school in which the community values education so highly and consistently challenges us to excel beyond expectations. This award is truly a reflection of all the dedication, passion and perseverance our Paul Norton family puts forth on a daily basis. As a community, we take pride in our teacher leadership efforts, data-driven decision making, and most importantly, each student’s growth both personally and academically,” Trepa commented. This is Trepa’s thirteenth year as the building’s leader, having previously served as associate principal at Bettendorf Middle School. She began her career as a special education teacher at Williams Intermediate in Davenport. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Montana and her master’s degree in educational administration from The University of Iowa. She was nominated by her peers, selected by a committee of Iowa elementary principals, and will be recognized at a governor’s awards ceremony in May and the association’s annual conference in August. The National Association of Elementary School Principals will also honor her as a National Distinguished Principal this fall in Washington, D.C.
