Mary Ellen Maske is Named Central Office Administrator of the Year![]() April 18, 2014 Cedar Rapids Associate Superintendent Receives Recognition for Educational Leadership Mary Ellen Maske, deputy superintendent of Cedar Rapids Community School District, has been named the 2014 Iowa Central Office Administrator of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. “I am very fortunate to be a part of the leadership team in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. The District’s commitment to excellence for all students, focus on best educational practices and innovation are what make Cedar Rapids a quality educational system. The collaborative efforts of the central administration and building staff to support student learning with a ‘can do’ attitude is unwavering. This honor is grounded in the efforts of the many outstanding educators in the Cedar Rapids Community School District,” Maske expressed. “Mary Ellen Maske has led the district in establishing Professional Learning Communities which allow staff to work together throughout the school year on curriculum and instruction. Additionally, her efforts with school-community partnerships have been invaluable to the students and families of Cedar Rapids,” said Dan Smith, SAI executive director. Maske previously served as PK-8 executive administrator in the district from 2008-2012. She began her career as an elementary teacher in the Iowa City Community School District. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in educational administration, both from The University of Iowa. She was nominated by her peers, selected for the award by a committee of Iowa central office administrators and will be honored May 19 at an awards ceremony at the state Capitol.
