Whether leading a PLC team, engaging an entire staff in professional learning or facilitating a meeting, every leader needs tools to maximize the productivity of the group. Come and fill your toolbox with strategies for grouping, keeping the group on-task, encouraging full participation by all members, supporting small- and whole-group interaction, moving groups to consensus, engaging in productive debate, and processing issues/ideas from multiple perspectives. Thursday, Oct 25, 2018 - Reaching and Teaching Students in Poverty: Strategies for Erasing the Opportunity Gap
In this interactive workshop we ask, “What would our strategies and initiatives for strengthening learning conditions for students experiencing poverty be if they were based, not on simplistic stereotypes, but on deep understandings of the barriers and inequities weighing on them in and out of school?" After a process of building these, we will explore instructional, relational and leadership strategies. These strategies are grounded in evidence for what works as well as a commitment to equity. Monday, Nov 12, 2018 - Becoming a Threat to Educational Inequity: An Intersectional, Transformative Approach
You will engage in a process of strengthening the knowledge and skills we need to be a threat to the existence of inequity in our spheres of influence. Using the equity literacy framework, designed to strengthen educators’ literacy related to equity, we will discuss critical principles that should drive equity initiatives and strategies and use them to analyze the initiatives and strategies being used in our classrooms, schools and districts.
