Ryan Dumkrieger from Sioux City selected Secondary Principal of the YearMarch 12, 2018 Ryan Dumkrieger, Sioux City North High School principal, has been named the 2018 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa. “Choose any measure of how a successful secondary school is evaluated and Ryan is making it happen at Sioux City North. As examples, graduation and attendance rates are rising and Advanced Placement opportunities have nearly tripled in three years. Through Ryan’s leadership, his team of outstanding educators is creating a learning environment where students are engaged and successful,” said SAI Executive Director Roark Horn. Dumkrieger expressed, “The State of Iowa is blessed with dedicated, innovative and compassionate school leaders. I am honored to be acknowledged as the Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year in a state that champions its public schools. This honor is a tribute to the work of our entire staff at North High School. Our staff works tirelessly to create a safe, supportive environment that focuses on providing a high-quality college- and career-ready education for all students.” He has led North High School since 2013 and was previously an assistant principal at Sioux City East. His education career began as a teacher at Lawton-Bronson Jr./Sr. High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business education from Morningside College, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Wayne State College, and a specialist’s degree and superintendent’s endorsement from Drake University.
