School Administrators of Iowa is looking for a dynamic, collaborative leader who understands the intricacies of school administration, models professional learning, and advocates for education at the local, state, and national levels.

General Description: The Executive Director of SAI is responsible for the implementation of the mission and vision of the Association as well as its day-to-day operations. S/he must be a person who acts from SAI's vision that every member will feel valued as a professional and inspired to be a leader of learners and SAI's mission to develop, support and encourage Iowa's leaders and learners. As a member of the SAI staff s/he must be a team-oriented individual who is committed to the association’s goals and to his/her fellow team members' professional success.

Primary Responsibilities: 
I.    Enhance member skills as leaders of learning
II.   Support efforts to recruit and retain quality administrators into the field of school administration
III.  Advocate for SAI members and the welfare of Iowa’s learners
IV. Operate an efficient and effective professional association


The Executive Director should have 10 years of proven successful leadership experience and demonstrated expertise in:

  • Student achievement and school improvement issues.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Management skills, including budget development and oversight.
  • Communicating effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Political processes and advocacy

Should possess a degree in educational leadership or a related field. A doctorate degree is preferred but not required.
