SAI Names Dr. Lisa Remy Executive Director

A highly skilled educational administrator with experience as both a district and school leader will serve as the next executive director of School Administrators of Iowa.

Dr. Remy currently serves as superintendent of the West Des Moines Community School District, a role she has held since 2013. There, she has worked closely with the Board of Education to establish and monitor ambitious goals for the district, using data to drive all key decision-making. She has also focused on leading professional development for the administrative team and recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers and staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Remy to SAI as our next executive director,” said Brad Buck, SAI president. “Over the course of her career, Dr. Remy has been an incredible school and district leader who has had much success increasing student achievement and ensuring her schools have the tools to attract and retain top-level educators. She is also a skilled communicator and a visible leader with impeccable integrity. We are excited to see the impact she will have on our organization and the members we serve.”

Previously, Dr. Remy served as a junior high principal and associate principal in West Des Moines CSD. Before that, she was a high school principal and junior high principal in the Hudson Community School District. She began her career in education as a Spanish teacher in Hudson.

Dr. Remy will succeed outgoing Executive Director Roark Horn, who is retiring effective June 30, 2022. She will officially assume the role July 1 and will be transitioning into the organization over the next several months. Dr. Remy will continue to serve as superintendent in West Des Moines CSD through the end of the 2021-22 school year.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as the next executive director of SAI, an organization that delivers a wide range of valuable professional learning and other growth opportunities for school administrators throughout Iowa,” said Dr. Remy. “As an administrator myself, I have regularly turned to SAI for the support I needed to lead my schools and district. I am looking forward to leading the way as we continue and expand these statewide services.”

Dr. Remy holds an Ed.D. in educational administration and a master’s degree in Spanish teaching, both from the University of Northern Iowa. She also holds a bachelor’s degree from UNI, along with superintendent and secondary principal certifications.
