Sean Baylor is Assistant Secondary Principal of the Year

School Administrators of Iowa has named Sean Baylor, associate principal at Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids, as the 2019-20 Iowa Assistant Secondary Principal of the Year.
Selection is based on the Iowa Standards for School Leaders, which focus on
In response to being recognized with the award for his leadership, Baylor expressed, “Here is what I say to kids and live by, ‘It doesn't matter where you come from, what matters is the work you are willing to put in to accomplish your goals and reach your destination.’ ”
SAI Executive Director Roark Horn added, “Sean exemplifies everything school leaders can accomplish with students, colleagues and an entire learning community. He continuously prioritizes what is best for the students he serves and has their interests at the forefront of any decision-making. We’re fortunate to have him represent Iowa as Assistant Secondary Principal of the Year.”
Baylor has served as an associate principal at Franklin Middle School since 2007, and his career began as a fourth-grade teacher. He holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and in elementary education, and his master’s in educational policy and leadership, all from the University of Iowa.
A committee of Iowa assistant secondary principals selected Baylor for the award. He will be recognized at a governor’s ceremony in the spring and at SAI's Annual Conference, August 5, 2020. As Iowa’s recipient, Baylor is a candidate for National Assistant Principal of the Year, an award sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He will have an opportunity to attend the organization’s annual conference and be recognized at the event.
