Secondary Principal of the Year is Jacob Feldmann of Western Dubuque

Jacob Feldmann, principal of Western Dubuque High School, has been named the 2023 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa.

“It is an absolute honor to receive this award. This process was a great opportunity to showcase the entire Western Dubuque Community School District including our school board, our supportive community, our caring parents, the dedicated staff, and the unbelievable students of Western Dubuque High School. The state of Iowa is filled with dedicated education professionals; it is an honor to accept this award and represent educators across the state,” Feldmann expressed.

“Jacob Feldmann has been instrumental in developing strong student leadership in the school, implementing service-learning opportunities and classes, adding more rigorous curriculum opportunities, and encouraging faculty and staff to build relationships and achieve their improvement goals. The district motto of ‘Better Every Day’ is driven by his leadership,” said SAI Executive Director Lisa Remy.

He has been principal at Western Dubuque High School since 2017 and previously served as assistant principal. His education career began as a special education teacher in the district. He received his bachelor’s degree in business teaching from the University of Northern Iowa and earned his master’s degree in special education from Loras College.

A committee of Iowa high school principals selected Feldmann, and he will be recognized at the association’s Annual Conference in August.
