Susie Meade of Winterset is Iowa's Superintendent of the Year
September 28, 2018 Susie Meade, superintendent of the Winterset Community School District, has been named the 2018-19 Iowa Superintendent of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa. SAI Executive Director Roark Horn said, “It is an honor to celebrate Dr. Susie Meade as Iowa’s Superintendent of the Year. Her innovative leadership, wide array of accomplishments, humility, and perhaps most of all her caring and compassion for others, exemplify what we all look for in our leaders.” “I couldn't be more proud to be a part of the Winterset Community School District. Our students, staff, parents and the community are what make it such a special place to live, learn and work. Together, we are on a journey to achieve our district mission: to empower all within our learning organization toward continuous learning, personal excellence and lifelong success. This award recognizes everyone's commitment to our students and our community,” Meade expressed. Prior to leading the Winterset district beginning in 2012, she was an assistant superintendent at Ankeny Community Schools. She began her career as a secondary home economics teacher in Faribault (Minn.) Community Schools. A graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, Meade also earned her master’s in special education from Mankato State University, a doctorate in educational administration from Iowa State University and a National Superintendent Certification from AASA, The School Superintendents Association. She was nominated by her peers and selected for the award by a committee of Iowa superintendents. Administrator of the Year award recipients will be honored at a governor’s awards ceremony in late spring and SAI’s Annual Conference next summer. She will also represent the state in the National Superintendent of the Year Program sponsored by AASA.
