March 9, 2018
Terry Hogenson, principal of Central Middle School in Muscatine, has been named the 2018 Iowa Middle Level Principal of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa.
“Students and staff at Central Middle School have looked to Terry for leadership for over 15 years, and his longevity in this position is a testament to the quality and inspiration of that leadership. His vision and passion for assuring that each student finds success is evident in how well they are prepared to excel once they reach high school,” commented SAI Executive Director Roark Horn.
Hogenson expressed, “I am elated, yet humbled by my selection as SAI's Middle School Principal of the Year. I couldn't be prouder of the staff that surrounds me each day with professionalism and purpose. Whether it's incorporating a new strategy, such as the gradual release of responsibility model, instituting a student-led conference format or exploring the virtues of becoming a Leader in Me School, the Central staff goes all in for the benefit of students. I truly am blessed to work with individuals who perpetuate a supportive culture for students, families and each other.”
Central principal since 2002, Hogenson was previously principal of Muscatine’s McKinley Elementary. His education career began as a sixth-grade teacher in Mason City. He received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Wartburg College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Drake University.
