Representative Council
What is the Representative Council?
- The Representative Council is the policy-making body of the School Administrators of Iowa (SAI).
- It includes members of the SAI Executive Committee.
- The Council meets five times annually, from September to June. Some meetings are held virtually.
Who Serves on the Representative Council?
- The Council has 34 members.
- Each of the nine Area Education Agency (AEA) districts contributes three members: the president, president-elect, and vice president.
- The SAI Executive Committee adds four members: the president, president-elect, vice president, and past-president.
- The council also includes one additional AEA representative, the NAESP state representative, and the NASSP state coordinator. The superintendent from either the Executive Committee or Representative Council also serves as the AASA representative.
How are SAI members elected to the Representative Council?
- District representatives serve three-year terms.
- Elections for district positions occur annually, if there are open positions.
- Only SAI members within a specific district can vote in that district's election.
- SAI manages the communication and election process for district representatives.
- The other roles on the council have their own selection processes, separate from the district elections.
