Mike Kramer, Bondurant-Farrar Community School District intermediate school principal, has been named the 2026 Iowa Middle School Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa (SAI).

2025 Middle School Principal of the Year Recipient Paul Gebel was part of the selection committee and shared his perspective on Kramer. “Congratulations to Mr. Michael Kramer on being named SAI Middle School Principal of the Year—a recognition that truly reflects his outstanding leadership, compassion, and commitment to students and staff. This honor is a testament to the excellence, integrity, and heart he brings to the principalship each day,” he said.

Kramer is a highly seasoned educational leader, currently serving as the intermediate school principal (grades 5-6) for Bondurant-Farrar Community School District, where he has dedicated over two decades of his professional career. Since transitioning into administration in 2004, Kramer has held principal roles across nearly every level of secondary and intermediate education within the district. His administrative tenure includes six years as middle school principal (grades 6-8), six years as high school principal (grades 9-12), and earlier terms as secondary and assistant secondary principal. Prior to work in school administration, Kramer spent ten years in the classroom as a business teacher across various Iowa schools.

A University of Northern Iowa graduate, Kramer received a bachelor’s degree in business education. He then earned a master’s degree in education from Viterbo University and an administrative endorsement from Drake University.

“Selected by a group of his peers, Mike Kramer exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding middle school leader. His commitment to students, staff, and the school community reflects what educational leadership is all about. Congratulations, Mike!” said SAI Executive Director Dr. Lisa Remy.

One reference letter described Kramer as an exceptional listener. “One of Mike’s most remarkable attributes is his ability to listen—truly listen. Whether it's a student, staff member, or parent, Mike gives each person his full attention and thoughtful consideration. He is easy to approach, and ensures every voice is heard and valued, empowering our building leadership team, which meets bi-weekly and plays a critical role in our school’s decision-making processes. His leadership style is one of inclusivity, calm, and support. He is a natural peacekeeper, always promoting collaboration over conflict.”

Reflecting on the recognition, Kramer said, "First and foremost, I have to thank the teachers, staff, students, and parents that I am fortunate enough to work with each day. Their efforts create a great environment for learning and growth for our students. I am also very honored and humbled by this recognition. I have learned from many outstanding administrators in my career that have all had a hand in shaping me as a building leader.”

Iowa’s Administrator of the Year award recipients will be honored at SAI’s annual conference in August 2026.
